In Psalm 46:10 we read, “Be still, and know that I am God”.
Again in Psalm 37:7 “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him.”
Zechariah 2:13 “Be still before the Lord, all mankind…..”
Two days after the quarantine had started, my sister and I were out for our walk around the neighborhood. We were walking and talking when all at once Kathy said, ‘Stop!’ I was looking around trying to see why she thought we should stop. Then she said, “Listen.” For that moment in time there was total silence, no people talking, no children playing outside and no vehicles going down the street. Total silence is something that doesn’t happen often in our society. We are so busy rushing around going here and there, doing all good things, that we put ourselves under more stress and thus at some point our relationships and often our health will suffer.
In a Hymn based on Psalm 46:10 the author puts it this way,
“Be still, my soul! The Lord is on thy side,
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain;
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In every change He faithful will remain,
Be still my soul! Thy best, thy heav’nly Friend
Thro thorny ways leads to a joyful end.”
I believe God is saying to us “Be Still, and know that I am God”.
