Psalm 139:7-10
Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
When I lived for a short stint in Germany, this became an anchoring verse for me so far away from the familiar. In moments of loneliness, this verse reminded me that I was not alone, no matter how far I had physically travelled from my home. It’s still a section of scripture I return to when I find myself cast out to sea or in a place where I feel like no one else knows where my soul has gone – but God does.
He knows where each of us resides as we shelter in place, and while there is a loneliness that goes with not being able to see each other in these days and weeks, God is there, and he is holding us fast.
